/artist statement

I find that my art gravitates toward figures: whole bodies, parts, faces. I look at them as landscapes. My media is diverse, with a primary focus on photography, and further work in sculpture, drawing, printing, paint, and mixed media. The sculpture is diverse as well: clay, paper, carving, found objects. Again, all of the work seems to gravitate toward figures and body parts, facial features and textures of skin, hair, clothing. I find personal relationships between people, and cultural differences in features, skin, and size part of my exploration in art making.

Sharing the art-making process is also important to me. The act of making, and the development of ideas are both of equal caliber. I try to instill these aspects in students and am sparked personally by their ideas as much as the ideas of the great and famous, whose work I admire.
